I have always been someone who performs well in interviews. I passed my first generic interview incredibly well and have always felt confident in interviews throughout my career. I am a teacher who goes above and beyond like many who cant even be kept by headteachers who love them instead of people coming in the door with a higher pass mark.
After completing my probation year I secured a full-time cluster supply role. It was during this role that I had to attend another interview after I had been in hospital overnight due to being in considerable pain. My council would not move the date of the interview despite my circumstances. I therefore had to attend the interview while I was still in significant pain and unfortunately I failed it.
This was extremely unusual for me as I had always performed well in interviews and had never failed an interview before. I believe my health and the circumstances surrounding that particular interview had a major impact on my performance.
Despite this setback I continued working and later picked up a three-day contract. With no break in my service. I wanted to remain in teaching and continue building my career within education.
Unfortunately I then had to change councils and after this I became unemployed. I had wanted to stay in teaching but the current employment issues being faced by teachers in Scotland made it increasingly difficult for me to find suitable and secure employment.
Because I wanted to continue working as a teacher rather than leave the profession I made the decision to move to England to look for better employment opportunities. My move was therefore a positive decision to continue my teaching career and find more stability rather than a decision to leave teaching.
I remain committed to teaching and shouldn't have to move for the Scottish Government to make a change to the employment status of teachers. I was 2 years with that council and they tossed me aside because they changed their pass mark and I was too unwell to perform. I cannot wait a year without a job.
