I was interviewed and told I was successful subject to suitable availability of permanent and fixed term roles. I am now being put on the supply list as no work has been available. I began the application and interview process in January while still completing probation and now it is likely I won’t work until at least October.

To think I will need to begin the stress of the application process again in 3 months is very concerning. I am a parent of child dependants. To constantly go through this lengthy process with very little communication is not sustainable. It doesn’t match the claim that teachers are valued in Scotland.

This is answer 142 of the 269 written answers that teachers let us quote anonymously in the Scottish Teacher Employment Survey 2026. It answers the survey’s last question: what do the people who make decisions about teacher employment need to know?

We have corrected spelling, added paragraph breaks and removed details that could identify anyone. Words in square brackets are ours.
