I am in the fortunate position to be in a permanent position. What is frustrating is when schools have to lose teachers who have worked temporarily and are part of the culture.

I wish there wasn’t a push to have classes at their maximum capacity rather than have schools have the maximum classes they could. [Details of the school's class structure removed.] We had the staff and space but nope, a teacher had to go and a composite be created.

Now would be the perfect time to gradually reduce class sizes and increase staffing.

This is answer 264 of the 269 written answers that teachers let us quote anonymously in the Scottish Teacher Employment Survey 2026. It answers the survey’s last question: what do the people who make decisions about teacher employment need to know?

We have corrected spelling, added paragraph breaks and removed details that could identify anyone. Words in square brackets are ours.
