Qualifying service: Two years continuous fixed-term service, or 24 months non-successive fixed-term work within four years.
What the route leads to: Eligible teachers can request a permanent contract.
Continuity: Any hours can count a service week; the local break wording is normally more than two calendar weeks, with specified exceptions.
Hours: Normally a two-year average where hours vary.
Vacancy / placement: Temporary paid posts may be offered while a teacher awaits a permanent match.

Eligibility, assessment, offered hours and the start of permanence are separate events.
