The general process is arduous. It should be centralised. We all should have a job profile and history, with say three generic questions answered through MyGTCS. Job adverts should be on there and you simply press apply.

There is far too many variations to make it a good process. We should basically all qualify to be on supply post-probation, again through MyGTCS and local authorities will be notified you are available to work in their authority if you tick yes to them.

This is answer 244 of the 269 written answers that teachers let us quote anonymously in the Scottish Teacher Employment Survey 2026. It answers the survey’s last question: what do the people who make decisions about teacher employment need to know?
