I completed my probation year 25/26 and was completely let down by my council who had promised us interviews for permanence from the start. They completely pivoted and told us it was unlikely we would receive any work until January 2027. When they did advertise jobs they had done this externally and falsely advertised the role causing a massive backlog of applications and frustrations. I am on the the supply list now and emailing daily as I was not given any information about how it works/email addresses/ID and had my login for the internal portal blocked. Due to the lack of stability I have had to move back to my parents and 5 hours away from my partner. I am lucky to have been offered full time temporary supply for term 1 in a new council and have a temporary position lined up for term 2.
However the insecurity in the central belt especially has caused stress on my life outside of teaching with moving home and relationship strain during these tricky conversations where my partner may have to give up his job to move to an area where I am being given opportunities.
Staff are struggling mentally and financially over the holidays not knowing where their next pay is coming from and if they’ll have a job and the children in schools are struggling with the lack of consistency in teachers.
