I see absolutely zero benefits to children or teachers in relation to a new 3 year probation. I think it’s misguided, ill-informed, all round awful, and will only exacerbate many of the issues in teacher wellbeing, pupil wellbeing, attainment, especially if teachers must remain at the same school for 3 years.

Class size reduction should be a priority to employ teachers, not considering average class sizes, but reducing:

Max multi-composite to 15.

Max composite to 18.

Max P1 to 18.

Max P2-4 to 20.

Max P4-7 to 22.

Education needs a huge shake-up. Including more support staff in schools, especially if class sizes are to remain at the levels they are with the demands on teachers.
