The uncertainty of not knowing from one term to the next is very draining and puts a lot of pressure on people and their families. We keep producing student teachers but there are not enough jobs for the teachers already out there. Something has to give.

This is answer 168 of the 269 written answers that teachers let us quote anonymously in the Scottish Teacher Employment Survey 2026. It answers the survey’s last question: what do the people who make decisions about teacher employment need to know?
