14th year of teaching and no route to permanency

The lack of opportunity for gaining permanency in every council needs to be addressed. I am now in my 14th year of teaching, and after relocating from another authority and leaving a permanent post, I now have no opportunity to gain permanency in my new council because of the situation.

As someone with extensive experience in Primary and Pupil Support, this should not be the case. If the 3 year employment proposal goes ahead then councils will lose skilled and experienced teachers. This needs to be addressed before anything else.

This is answer 216 of the 269 written answers that teachers let us quote anonymously in the Scottish Teacher Employment Survey 2026. It answers the survey’s last question: what do the people who make decisions about teacher employment need to know?

We have corrected spelling, added paragraph breaks and removed details that could identify anyone. Words in square brackets are ours.
