This 3 year guarantee proposal is a great idea but will it help the people who are already qualified and stuck without work? – they should be the priority!!

Allocated Aberdeenshire, so no Aberdeen City probationer interview

For my probation year I was allocated Aberdeenshire through the Teacher Induction Scheme after being based in Aberdeen City and completing all of my uni placements there. Aberdeen City give their probationers an opportunity to interview and allocate either permanent, fixed-term, supply or not successful through the interview. This puts me at a major disadvantage as I did not have that opportunity purely because I was based in the shire through no choice of my own.

Jobs are advertised internally which I can’t access as I don’t work in Aberdeen City and I have had the opportunity to apply for 3 jobs this year based in Aberdeen City. It is completely unfair and needs to be addressed ASAP as [it] is having a negative impact on so many qualified teachers’ wellbeing and is driving educators out of the sector due to the lack of access to jobs and financial security.

From my probation cohort of 187 probationers, 5 were given permanency. It came at no surprise that all 5 of those people had a parent who was a head teacher in that authority. Some people went to the union about this clear show of nepotism, but they were told there was nothing…
